What is Y2K?



Y2K is the phenomenon that can occur, when we enter the 3rd Milennium.

  • Y=year | 2=two | K=1000 | = Year2000

  • Computerproblems can cause many problems
    because of the fact that older computers only
    give two figurs for the year.
    For example: 1999 = 99 in older systems
    If the date is switched to the year 2000,
    the result is: 00 for older systems.

  • This failure, which has been build in older chips,
    may cause failures in a number of machines.
    Elevators, hospitals, military equipment,
    airplanes, electricity plants,administrations.
    All these applications are dependant of computers.

  • Most of all the fear for failures will cause the main problems.
    The stocking of food for instance will cause shortages.
